Pakistan and Saudi Arabia formalized a defense agreement on Wednesday, September 17, 2025. This strategic mutual defense agreement stipulates that an attack on either nation will be considered an attack on both. The agreement was signed during Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s visit to Riyadh, at Al-Yamama Palace, where he was greeted by Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman.
The agreement, as detailed in a statement released by the Prime Minister’s Office, clarifies that an assault on one country will be regarded as an attack on both. A joint statement issued after the signing highlighted the foundation of the agreement: a partnership spanning nearly eight decades, rooted in brotherhood, Islamic solidarity, and shared strategic interests.
