Pakistan’s prime minister has landed in eastern China to accelerate the next stage of the flagship Belt and Road project linking the two countries. Shahbaz Sharif touched down in Hangzhou accompanied by a high-powered delegation that includes Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal. The four-day program opens with a welcome by provincial officials and quickly moves into a series of economic meetings and signing ceremonies. A major highlight will be the Pakistan-China Business-to-Business Investment Conference, where corporate leaders from both sides will explore joint ventures in manufacturing, technology, and agriculture. In the capital, Sharif is slated to meet President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Qiang to review political, economic, and security cooperation. The talks will also touch on ways to upgrade infrastructure projects already underway under CPEC and to launch new initiatives in green energy and digital connectivity. Observers say the timing is significant given regional tensions and Pakistan’s need for fresh capital inflows. Officials in Islamabad describe the trip as a milestone that could reshape the trajectory of bilateral ties for years to come.
