Paraguay‑India Bilateral Relations Enter New Phase

Celebrating 65 years of diplomatic interaction, India and Paraguay reaffirmed their intent to move the relationship into a more dynamic stage. The foreign ministry noted that the continued warmth and amicable ties have paved the way for expanded cooperation across multiple sectors.

Both governments highlighted successes in trade, agriculture, health, pharmaceuticals and information technology, and announced plans to launch joint initiatives aimed at increasing commercial exchange and investment flows.

Paraguay’s role as a growing trade partner for India in the Latin American region was underscored, reflecting the diversification of India’s external economic engagement.

During the June 2025 visit of Prime Minister Modi and President Santiago Peña Palacios to New Delhi, comprehensive talks were held on topics ranging from defence and security to infrastructure, mining and digital collaboration. The three‑day diplomatic itinerary marked a historic moment, being the second Indian visit by a Paraguayan head of state.

The leaders reiterated that as members of the Global South, India and Paraguay share similar hopes, ambitions and hurdles, and that joint action will foster shared development and prosperity.
