Partner Country Initiative Expands BRICS Reach, Peskov Says

The Kremlin highlighted the 2024 creation of a new “BRICS Partner Country” category, granting associate status to ten emerging economies. Representatives from these partners are gradually being integrated into various working groups and formats, broadening the group's diplomatic and economic footprint.

Peskov noted that during the upcoming summit in Rio de Janeiro, the Russian delegation will launch expert‑level discussions on United Nations reform and improving the functioning of major international institutions. Several BRICS members have already voiced strong support for these proposals, reflecting a shared desire to modernise global governance structures.

By expanding the partner network, BRICS aims to consolidate a collective front that can counterbalance traditional western‑led institutions and promote more equitable decision‑making on the world stage.
