Pentagon Rejects Claims of Chaos Amid Leadership Changes, Defends Readiness

The Department of Defense responded strongly to Leon Panetta’s comments about internal turmoil following Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin’s recent personnel reshuffle. Pentagon spokesperson Shawn Parner dismissed the reports of discord as unfounded.

Parner emphasized that Secretary Pete Hegseth is leading the department at full capacity and that the chain of command remains intact. He said recent resignations and disagreements among senior officers do not affect mission readiness.

Panetta had expressed concern that leadership friction could sow uncertainty among troops and signal weakness to rival powers such as China, Russia, North Korea and Iran. The Pentagon’s statement refuted any notion that the United States is losing its strategic edge.

According to the defense ministry, ongoing operations in the Persian Gulf continue without interruption, and logistical support for deployed forces remains robust.

The department also highlighted that its strategic objectives, including safeguarding the Hormuz Strait and deterring Iranian aggression, are being pursued with clear guidance from senior civilian leadership.
