Prime Minister Narendra Modi was bestowed with Ghana’s highest national honor, the Officer of the Order of the Star of Ghana, by President John Dramani Mahama. The award recognizes his distinguished statesmanship and global leadership. Modi accepted the award on behalf of 1.4 billion Indians, dedicating it to India’s youth, cultural heritage, and the historical ties between Ghana and India. He expressed gratitude to the people and government of Ghana, stating the award would deepen the friendship between the two nations and foster bilateral ties. The Prime Minister announced plans to establish a Skill Development Centre and support Ghana’s ‘Feed Ghana’ program. Discussions included expanding cooperation in agriculture, education, defence, healthcare, and digital payments. India will also double ITEC and ICCR scholarships for Ghana. Modi also said India plans to double trade with Ghana within the next five years and offer its digital payments system, Bharat UPI, to boost financial connectivity. This visit, the first by an Indian Prime Minister to Ghana in over 30 years, is poised to strengthen the India-Ghana partnership and reinforce New Delhi’s engagement with Africa and the Global South.
