PM Modi Secures Return of Ancient Chola Copper Inscriptions

In a landmark cultural victory, Prime Minister Narendra Modi confirmed that 11th-century Chola copper plates currently kept in the Netherlands will be repatriated to India. The 24-plate collection, inscribed mainly in classical Tamil, documents royal grants issued by Rajendra Chola I following his father’s oral pledge. The artifacts have resided at Leiden University for more than 170 years. Modi made the announcement on social media after attending a ceremony alongside Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte, emphasizing that the return honors the Chola dynasty’s naval prowess and administrative brilliance.
