Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to hold bilateral discussions with Chinese President Xi Jinping on August 31 during the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit. This meeting represents his first visit to China in over seven years. In addition to the meeting with Xi Jinping, PM Modi will also meet Russian President Vladimir Putin on September 1 in Tianjin. These high-profile meetings are expected to attract significant global attention, particularly in the context of ongoing trade tensions between India and the United States, which have been exacerbated by U.S. penalties over India’s continued purchase of Russian oil amid the war in Ukraine. Prior to the summit, New Delhi emphasized its expectation that the SCO will strongly condemn cross-border terrorism.
