Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s upcoming visit to Cyprus during his G7 Canada tour signifies a significant diplomatic initiative. This trip, along with a stop in Croatia, holds considerable importance, particularly in the context of strained relations between India and Turkey. Cyprus, a member of the European Union, is set to assume the rotating presidency of the EU Council in the first half of 2026, making this visit strategically crucial. The visit is viewed as a calculated message to Turkey, which supported Pakistan during India’s Operation Sindoor. This support was not received favorably by India. Cyprus’s condemnation of the Pahalgam terror attack further solidified ties. PM Modi is also scheduled to participate in the G7 session in Alberta from June 15 to 17.
