India's High Commissioner Pranay Verma concluded his diplomatic mission in Bangladesh with a courtesy meeting with Prime Minister Tariq Rahman at the Bangladesh Secretariat on Sunday. The meeting, attended by Pakistan's Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman, was described by the Bangladesh Nationalist Party as a formal farewell call. Verma's next assignment will see him represent India in Brussels as Ambassador to Belgium and the European Union, a role that also encompasses Luxembourg. Verma's diplomatic résumé reflects decades of service in critical global capitals. From Hong Kong to San Francisco, Beijing to Kathmandu, and Washington D.C. to Hanoi, he has shaped India's foreign policy across continents. His time as Joint Secretary for East Asia further cemented his reputation as a seasoned strategist in regional affairs. Taking over from Verma is Dinesh Trivedi, a veteran parliamentarian who has served across Congress, Janata Dal, Trinamool Congress, and now the BJP. A former aviator and recipient of the Outstanding Parliamentarian Award, Trivedi is expected to bring both political acumen and administrative depth to the High Commission. His leadership of parliamentary committees on finance and commerce adds further weight to his credentials. The change in leadership signals continuity in India's commitment to its eastern neighbor, even as new challenges and opportunities emerge in bilateral ties.
