President Joseph Aoun urges US intervention after hospitals and ministries damaged

In a press briefing held in Beirut on September 6, President Joseph Aoun demanded immediate U.S. diplomatic involvement following a series of Israeli airstrikes that destroyed key civilian facilities in southern Lebanon. The president described the attacks as a "dangerous provocation" that undermines any hope for lasting peace.

Aoun pointed to the near‑complete obliteration of Ghandour Hospital in Nabatieh Governorate and the severe impairment of the Ministry of Finance building as evidence of a troubling shift in Israel’s targeting strategy. He urged Washington to pressure Israel to cease the strikes and to hold the perpetrators accountable.

Lebanon’s Health Ministry confirmed four casualties – two women among the dead – and six injured individuals, including two children. The civilian toll underscores the growing humanitarian concerns as the conflict escalates.

Israeli officials maintained that the bombings were a direct response to Hezbollah’s drone incursions, claiming to have hit sites linked to the militant group. Nonetheless, the strikes hit multiple locations across the south, such as the Al‑Mansouri area of the Tyre district.

The president’s call for U.S. action arrives at a precarious moment, as the cease‑fire brokered by America between Israel and Hezbollah shows increasing signs of erosion. Beirut warns that continued hostilities could quickly expand into a broader regional war.
