President Links CIA Mission in Russia to Efforts to End Ukraine War

During a conversation with a conservative broadcaster, the president connected the clandestine trip of the CIA director to his broader diplomatic strategy aimed at halting hostilities in Ukraine. He described the journey as “mostly semi‑routine,” and asserted that speculation linking it to NATO testing or Iran‑related warnings was unfounded.

He refrained from providing details about the timing of the arrival, the individuals the director met, or the duration of the visit. Nonetheless, he emphasized that the mission fits within a larger push by his administration to bring the Russia‑Ukraine war to an end. He claimed that if he had been in office during the initial Russian offensive, the war would not have started, and he suggested that both Moscow and Kyiv now have an interest in concluding the fighting.

The president also praised John Ratcliffe, calling him a “great individual” and the head of the CIA, while refusing to confirm whether the director was carrying any specific messages on behalf of the United States.
