Lord Swraj Paul, the founder of the Caparo Group, has died in London at the age of 94. A prominent figure within the Indian community in the UK, he was a regular attendee of the House of Lords, despite his advanced age. Prime Minister Narendra Modi conveyed his deep sorrow at the loss of the NRI industrialist Swaraj Paul and paid tribute to his significant legacy of philanthropy and public service. Born in Jalandhar, Lord Paul relocated to the UK in the 1960s for his daughter Ambika’s cancer treatment. Following Ambika’s death at age four, he established the Ambika Paul Foundation, which has contributed significantly to education and healthcare initiatives for children and young people. He continued his philanthropic efforts even after the deaths of his son Angad Paul in 2015 and his wife Aruna in 2022.
