New Delhi, September 1 – Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan arrived at the Royal Norwegian Embassy on Tuesday to sign the condolence register after the passing of King Harald V on August 28, 2026. The Vice President’s message expressed the profound sorrow of the Indian government and its citizens over the loss of a monarch who had been a steadfast advocate for India‑Norway friendship.

Radhakrishnan emphasized that King Harald V’s diplomatic vision was pivotal in converting a long‑standing friendly rapport into a comprehensive partnership encompassing trade, technology, and cultural exchange. He cited specific initiatives, such as joint renewable‑energy projects and collaborative research programs, that were launched under the king’s patronage.

The Vice President also recalled Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s historic May 2024 visit to Norway, the first by an Indian prime minister in 43 years. During that visit, Modi met the king at the Royal Palace in Oslo, where they discussed shared democratic principles and future cooperation. The king later honored Modi with the Grand Cross of the Royal Norwegian Order of Merit, reflecting mutual respect.
