Recent School Shootings Raise Security Concerns Across Turkey

The latest gun attack outside a Manisa vocational high school adds to a string of violent incidents that have shaken Turkey's education system this year. In April, a 14‑year‑old opened fire at a school in Kahramanmaras, killing a teacher and nine young students. A day later, a teenage shooter in Şanlıurfa wounded sixteen people before taking his own life.

Following these events, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan dismissed the education deputy minister and pledged tougher gun‑ownership laws. The repeated attacks have prompted parents, teachers, and policymakers to call for stronger security measures at schools nationwide.
