Following a significant explosion near Delhi’s iconic Red Fort, both the United States and the United Kingdom have issued travel advisories for their citizens. The blast, which occurred on a busy Monday evening, ripped through a car at a traffic signal, resulting in at least 11 fatalities and over 25 injuries. The US Embassy in New Delhi has alerted American nationals, advising them to avoid areas around the Red Fort and Chandni Chowk, steer clear of large gatherings, and stay informed through local media. Vigilance and awareness of surroundings are strongly recommended, particularly in tourist hotspots and public areas across the capital.
The US State Department expressed deep sympathy for the victims and their families, confirming they are closely monitoring the developing situation. While the exact cause of the explosion remains under investigation, Indian authorities have reportedly placed several states on high alert. The US has reiterated its readiness to provide consular assistance to its citizens.
Simultaneously, the UK government has updated its travel guidance. The Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) advises against all travel within 10km of the India-Pakistan border due to potential armed conflict. Additionally, the FCDO strongly discourages all travel to the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, with specific exclusions for air travel to and within Jammu city. Travel to Manipur is also advised against, except for essential purposes, owing to persistent ethnic violence and curfews.
