Regional Meeting to Reveal Iran-Oman Hormoz Strait Agreement

A high‑level gathering of Gulf foreign ministers is set for Monday in Muscat, where Iran and Oman will disclose the details of their recent accord on the Hormoz Strait. The agreement, reached after prolonged negotiations, creates new entry and exit corridors that remain inside Iran's territorial sea, effectively reshaping the navigational map of the region.

According to the deal, the conventional southern route will be suspended once the new lanes are in force. Although the United States has advocated for keeping that passage open, the pact does not signal an unconditional reopening of the strait.

Iran has presented seven conditions that must be fulfilled before any full restoration of traffic, and it has communicated these to the United States. The strait will stay closed until those demands are satisfied, making American policy a decisive factor.

The Muscat meeting will also include foreign ministers from Iraq and other Gulf states, providing a platform to discuss broader maritime safety and the implementation of the newly designed shipping corridor.
