Russia has launched its most extensive international defense exhibition to date at the Dubai Airshow 2025, presenting a record-breaking collection of full-scale weapon systems. This significant display underscores Moscow’s ambition to broaden its defense industry presence in the Middle East amidst escalating global military competition. The exhibition prominently features Russia’s prowess in airpower, advanced missile systems, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), and electronic warfare capabilities.
The global defense market is projected to exceed $800 billion in the coming decade, with the Middle East recognized as a key growth region. Russia’s state-owned defense export agency, ROSOBORONEXPORT, is spearheading the Russian pavilion, which spans 1,000 square meters. This expansive footprint symbolizes the nation’s growing ambitions in the aerospace and defense sectors.
The impressive showcase integrates contributions from leading Russian defense manufacturers including the United Aircraft Corporation and Almaz-Antey Air and Space Defence Corporation. Over 850 products are on display, with more than 30 major systems presented in full-scale static exhibitions. Highlights include the Su-57E fifth-generation stealth fighter, sophisticated missiles, and comprehensive air defense solutions.
The export-ready Su-57E stealth fighter is making its Middle Eastern debut, with flight demonstrations planned. This aircraft is being offered to regional powers like Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and Egypt, not only as a high-end acquisition but also as an opportunity for local aerospace development through technology transfer. Russia is proposing packages for localized production, including components and propulsion systems, valued between $5-7 billion.
The static display of the Su-57E includes its internal weapons bay, featuring missiles such as the RVV-MD2, RVV-BD, Kh-38MLE, Kh-69, Grom-E1, and Kh-58UShKE. These armaments demonstrate the fighter’s multi-domain strike capabilities, positioning it as a direct competitor to Western fifth-generation aircraft. Russia’s aviation offerings also include the IL-76MD-90A(E) heavy airlifter and the world premiere of the Yak-130M light combat and trainer aircraft, boasting new avionics and expanded weapon compatibility. The Ka-52 attack helicopter will also perform flight demonstrations.
Advanced propulsion is represented by the Item 177S turbojet engine, promising enhanced performance. Russia is also emphasizing its growing drone capabilities with reconnaissance UAVs like the Orlan-10E and Orlan-30, alongside the combat-proven Lancet-E loitering munition. For the first time at this airshow, Russia is exhibiting full-scale air defense systems, including the Pantsir-SMD-E, capable of countering various threats including UAVs. Integrated defense solutions are further showcased with systems like the Dzhigit launcher and Verba MANPADS.
Discussions at the airshow are expected to focus on technology transfer, joint development, and localized production, reflecting the growing demand for indigenous defense capabilities in the Middle East and beyond. Russia’s significant presence at Dubai Airshow 2025 signals a strategic push to bolster its global defense market share through competitive offerings and technological partnerships.
