Russian Naval and Drone Incidents Highlight Growing Threat to NATO Allies

Recent developments have raised alarms across NATO countries, according to statements made by EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas in New Delhi. Within a span of two days, a Russian warship is said to have fired signal rockets toward a Danish helicopter, while a NATO jet intercepted a hostile drone over Lithuania.

Further escalation was observed when a Russian strike hit a passenger train operating near the Ukrainian border, and Polish security forces recovered an unmanned aerial vehicle near their coastline. Kallas described these events as deliberate provocations aimed at destabilising the alliance and testing the readiness of European defenses.

She underscored that the EU will continue to back Ukraine with political, financial and military aid, rejecting any notion of diminishing support. The statements were backed by Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Shevchenko, who warned that Moscow’s pattern of behavior threatens the broader security architecture of the continent.

Shevchenko’s repost on X highlighted that the assaults are probing Europe’s borders, airspace, infrastructure and crisis‑response mechanisms. Both officials called for a robust NATO‑wide reaction to ensure that Russia’s capacity to launch similar operations is systematically reduced.
