A series of intense Russian attacks, involving both drones and missiles, struck Ukraine overnight, resulting in at least four fatalities. The capital city of Kyiv experienced the brunt of the assault, marking a significant escalation following the prior month’s deadly airstrike that claimed the lives of at least 21 individuals. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, in a public statement, confirmed the attacks and expressed condolences for the victims. He highlighted that the attacks spanned over 12 hours, describing them as a deliberate act of terror targeting civilian areas.
The main targets of the strikes were Kyiv and the surrounding region, along with Zaporizhzhia, Khmelnytskyi, Sumy, Mykolaiv, Chernihiv, and Odesa regions, according to Zelenskyy. In Kyiv, the Cardiology Institute building sustained damage. Among the casualties, a 12-year-old girl was reported dead. In addition to the fatalities, at least 40 people, including children, were injured across Ukraine. Infrastructure damage included a bread-production facility, a tire manufacturing plant, private residences, apartment buildings, and other civilian infrastructure. Zelenskyy assured that all necessary services were deployed to address the situation.
President Zelenskyy condemned Russia’s actions, stating that Moscow’s aim is to perpetuate the conflict and inflict further casualties. He called for maximum international pressure on Russia, asserting that the Kremlin benefits from the ongoing war and the revenue generated from energy exports and its shadow fleet. In response to the attacks and the resulting casualties, Zelenskyy affirmed Ukraine’s commitment to retaliatory strikes, aiming to disrupt Moscow’s revenue streams and compel it towards diplomatic solutions. “We will continue to strike back to deprive Russia of those revenue streams and to compel it toward diplomacy. Everyone who wants peace must back President Trump’s efforts and halt any Russian imports. The time for decisive action is long overdue, and we count on a strong response from the United States, Europe, the G7, and the G20,” he stated.
