A Bangladesh court has handed down a significant prison sentence to ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, sentencing her to a total of 21 years behind bars. The convictions stem from three separate corruption cases related to alleged irregularities in the allocation of plots in the Purbachol New Town Project by Rajuk. Each case resulted in a seven-year jail term, compounding to a lengthy sentence. The verdict was delivered in absentia, as Sheikh Hasina had not yet been apprehended. Court documents indicated that the plot in question was allotted without a formal application and exceeded authorized jurisdiction. Previously, the Anti-Corruption Commission had filed six cases against Hasina and her family regarding the alleged illegal allocation of government plots in the Purbachal area. The judgments for three remaining cases are slated for December 1. In related developments, her son Sajeeb Wazed Joy received a five-year sentence and a fine, while her daughter Saima Wazed Putul was also sentenced to five years imprisonment.
