A 36-year-old Sikh man, identified as Gurpreet Singh, was shot and killed by the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) on July 13. The incident occurred after reports of a man wielding a large blade near the Crypto.com Arena. Singh was observed performing Gatka, a traditional Sikh martial art, with what was later identified as a ‘khanda’, a double-edged sword. After abandoning his car in traffic and attempting to harm himself, Singh confronted officers with the blade, leading to the use of lethal force. The man succumbed to gunshot wounds at the hospital. No officers or civilians were injured, and an investigation is underway.
