Special Traffic Rehearsal Clears the Way for BRICS Leaders in Delhi

On September 1, Delhi’s traffic police completed a comprehensive drill designed to streamline the arrival and movement of BRICS summit participants. The exercise covered all major arteries leading from the airport to the India Pavilion, segmenting the routes into seven zones and 27 sectors for precise control. Senior officers, traffic inspectors and support personnel were tasked with managing the flow, testing signal timings, and coordinating with security units.

The Special Commissioner of Traffic, Ajay Choudhary, highlighted that the rehearsal allowed authorities to anticipate challenges such as peak‑hour congestion and unexpected road incidents. By addressing these issues in advance, the police aim to minimise disruption for ordinary commuters while ensuring the safety of high‑profile visitors.

India will host the 18th BRICS summit on September 12‑13, under the banner “Building Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability.” The gathering will feature leaders from eleven emerging economies and invited guests, focusing on shared priorities and collaborative solutions to global challenges. In tandem with the traffic preparations, the Delhi Municipal Corporation has launched a city‑wide beautification campaign, targeting waste removal, stray‑animal control, and upgrades to streets and public spaces that will be frequented by delegations.

The coordinated effort underscores Delhi’s commitment to presenting a secure, efficient and aesthetically pleasing environment for the international community.
