Strategic Ties Strengthened as India’s Defence Minister Engages Sri Lanka's Military

Defense Minister Rajnath Singh’s visit to Sri Lanka included a high‑level discussion with the island’s senior military leadership. Singh observed that a considerable number of Sri Lankan officers have undergone training in India, reflecting the depth of the two countries’ defence relationship.

During the talks, Singh emphasized a "comprehensive and mutual" maritime vision, calling for enhanced cooperation in naval exercises, joint surveillance and coastal security initiatives.

He reiterated India’s intention to further solidify the long‑standing strategic partnership, citing the shared goal of safeguarding regional waters and ensuring maritime stability.

Following the defence briefing, Singh met Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya to explore collaborative projects in development, education and cultural heritage, reinforcing the broader context of bilateral cooperation.

The minister’s itinerary concluded with a meeting with President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, where he conveyed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s greetings and discussed joint efforts to promote peace, security and economic growth throughout the region.
