Supreme Court faces criticism over delay in Imran Khan contempt case

The Supreme Court of Pakistan is under pressure after Ujra Khan, the sister of former prime minister Imran Khan, submitted a new petition demanding a prompt hearing on a contempt matter. The case originated from an August 18 ruling that ordered Khan’s transfer to Shifa International Hospital and required weekly family visits.

Ujra’s petition claims that authorities have ignored the directive, opting instead to place Khan at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences, thereby jeopardising his health. She notes that a hearing has been set for September 16, but insists that the seriousness of Khan’s medical condition warrants an earlier date.

The filing accuses the state of a conscious breach of the court’s order, arguing that such non‑compliance undermines the rule of law and threatens the former premier’s right to life and adequate medical treatment.
