Following Gen-Z protests in Nepal, Sushila Karki has taken the helm as the interim Prime Minister. In her inaugural address, Karki emphasized the importance of heeding the voices of the youth. Addressing the Gen-Z generation who led anti-corruption demonstrations, the 73-year-old former Chief Justice stated that the government must work in accordance with the mindset of this generation, which is demanding an end to corruption, good governance, and economic equality.
Karki immediately displayed her dedication to fighting corruption. She mentioned that she did not seek leadership but was brought in by popular demand.
She has pledged to focus on eradicating corruption during her time in office. Karki has stated that her tenure would not extend beyond six months, with the aim of fulfilling responsibilities and handing over power to the next parliament and ministers.
President Poudel announced that the parliament has been dissolved, and elections are scheduled for March 5th. The new Prime Minister has also promised to provide approximately 10 lakh rupees to the families of those killed by the police. Karki visited a hospital in Kathmandu on Friday to check on the injured.
