Central Texas has been struck by torrential rains leading to catastrophic flash floods, resulting in the deaths of more than 50 individuals. Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem has assured swift action in rescue operations. In response to the disaster, the Governor of Texas declared Sunday a Day of Prayer. In Kerr County, the situation is particularly dire, with over 20 girls missing from Camp Mystic, a private Christian summer camp. The river near the camp rose dramatically. Hundreds of people have been rescued or evacuated, many by helicopter. Some areas received a month’s worth of rain in just hours. The US Coast Guard has saved or assisted in saving 223 lives. President is committed to deploying all federal resources. Governor Greg Abbott stated responders will continue working until every missing person is found.
