Russian President Vladimir Putin, a prominent figure among global leaders, notably refrains from using social media platforms. This absence has sparked numerous discussions, and now, the Russian presidential office has provided insights into the reasons behind Putin’s digital detachment. The era of social media began in Russia about a year after Putin first became president in 1999.
A report from Russia Today, referencing Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, delves into the specifics of Putin’s social media avoidance. Peskov explains that the Russian president has no plans to use social media, now or in the future. Putin views it as a waste of time, even though he stays updated on online trends. He receives information about what is trending online from the Kremlin or family members, which is why he chooses not to engage with social media directly. However, the official social media account of the Russian presidential office is active.
In 2017, when asked, Putin mentioned that he utilizes his free time for fitness. He also spends time with friends and listens to music when he is not occupied with the tasks of the presidential office.
