Relations between India and Canada were strained during the tenure of former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. Canada had leveled serious accusations against India, leading to a deterioration in the relationship. However, initiatives to improve ties between the two countries have now begun. Nathalie Drouin, Canada’s NSA, and Deputy Foreign Minister David Morrison, who had previously accused Home Minister Amit Shah of targeting separatists, arrived in India. They met with NSA Ajit Doval, and this visit is seen as an effort to mend the strained relations.
Following the NSA-level talks, signs of a thaw in relations have emerged. The meeting is considered a significant development. Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal stated that the Canadian NSA held discussions with India’s National Security Advisor.
