Trump made disparaging remarks about Mamdani's appearance, voice, and intelligence. He also criticized prominent Democrats, including Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC) and Chuck Schumer, for supporting Mamdani. Trump's comments were made on Truth Social, where he labeled Mamdani a "100% Communist Lunatic" and expressed concern about the direction of the country. Mamdani, a New York State Assembly member, responded to his victory by quoting Nelson Mandela, stating that he was honored to be the Democratic nominee. Mamdani, born in Uganda to Indian-American filmmaker Mira Nair and Indo-Ugandan professor Mahmood Mamdani, is the first South Asian man to serve in the New York State Assembly and the first Ugandan, and the only third Muslim ever to be a member of the body.
