President Donald Trump has authorized the deployment of troops to Portland and immigration centers nationwide. This decision marks Trump’s latest move involving the use of the military in domestic affairs. Announcing the order on his Truth Social network, Trump stated he would direct his Secretary of Defense, Pete Hegseth, to implement the order. He also indicated that the troops would be authorized to use full force if necessary. The announcement, made on social media, instructed the Pentagon to provide all necessary soldiers to secure the war-torn city of Portland. Trump cited the need to protect U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facilities, which he claimed were under attack by Antifa and other domestic terrorists. The White House has yet to issue an immediate response to Trump’s announcement, and it remains unclear when the deployment will occur or which specific military units will be involved.
