Following the recent Russian air strikes on Ukraine, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt stated that former US President Donald Trump expressed displeasure but was not taken by surprise. Leavitt shared that while Trump desires an end to the conflict, he believes both Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky must also be committed to reaching a resolution. The strikes, described as the second-largest since the war’s onset, resulted in at least 21 fatalities, including four children. Further statements from the former President are anticipated. The remarks come amid ongoing attempts by the US and Russia to mediate a ceasefire, with truce talks held in Alaska to discuss ending the conflict. Russia employed long-range weaponry, including hypersonic Kinzhal missiles, against Ukrainian military targets. The attacks reportedly struck multiple weapons plants and airfields. While Ukraine’s military reported intercepting many incoming projectiles, it acknowledged successful Russian strikes in 13 locations, with additional damage from falling debris. CCTV footage captured missiles hitting the same site in Kyiv, identified by some sources as the defense company Ukrspecsystems. Furthermore, Igor Zinkevich, a Lviv city council member, mentioned a targeted attack on a Kyiv plant operated by the Turkish military firm Bayraktar. Earlier, Russia’s Federal Security Service reported an operation against Ukraine’s Sapsan ballistic missile program, claiming significant damage. Moscow has repeatedly accused Western nations of using Ukraine as a proxy and argues that the war is unsustainable and serves foreign interests.
