The White House announced that President Donald Trump is deploying an additional 2,000 National Guard troops to Los Angeles to support Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and federal law enforcement officers. This move comes after an initial deployment of 2,000 troops earlier in the week. The Department of Defense confirmed the action. The deployment is intended to assist law enforcement during ongoing protests related to immigration arrests. The state of California has filed a lawsuit against the Trump administration, challenging the constitutionality of these deployments. A White House spokesperson criticized California Governor Gavin Newsom, urging him to prioritize prosecuting ‘anti-ICE rioters’ rather than pursuing legal action. California Attorney General Rob Bonta condemned Trump’s decision, calling it ‘unnecessary, counterproductive, and unlawful,’ citing violations of the 10th Amendment and federal law. Governor Newsom has accused Trump of ‘creating fear and terror’ and violating the U.S. Constitution. The protests are linked to ICE raids and the arrests of undocumented immigrants.
