Ukraine continues its attacks against Russia, targeting critical infrastructure. A recent drone strike hit one of Russia’s largest oil refineries, resulting in a significant fire at the facility. This incident was confirmed by both Russian and Ukrainian officials. The Kirishi refinery, located in the Leningrad region of northwest Russia, has been targeted previously, with this attack coming weeks after earlier strikes on Russian oil refineries. This refinery, operated by Surgutneftegas, a major Russian oil company, produces approximately 17.7 million metric tons of crude oil annually, or 355,000 barrels per day. The use of drones has become a prominent feature of the conflict, with both sides utilizing them extensively. The conflict has been ongoing for over three years and the use of drones continues to evolve. On Wednesday, several Russian drones entered Polish airspace, prompting NATO to scramble fighter jets. The attack on the refinery adds to growing concerns that the war could spread beyond Ukraine’s borders. According to the Ukrainian General Staff, there were explosions and a fire at the site. They posted an image showing flames and smoke billowing into the night sky.
