Ukraine-India Dialogue Highlights Global Food Security Risks from Black Sea Attacks

During a telephone conversation on August 27, Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Andrii Sibіha informed India’s Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar about the escalating threats to maritime traffic in the Black Sea. He emphasized that Russian aggression against Ukrainian ports and pipelines is endangering not only regional trade but also the worldwide supply of essential food commodities.

The ministers agreed that the ongoing assaults on cargo ships, including the recent strike on three bulk carriers and a tanker at the Pivdennyi port, could trigger a sharp rise in global food prices and threaten the nutrition of millions.

Both parties pledged to work together to restore secure navigation routes, strengthen bilateral cooperation and maintain continuous diplomatic contact on the issue.
