The United Nations Security Council witnessed a pointed exchange as India delivered a robust rebuttal to Pakistan’s allegations. Permanent Representative P. Harish condemned Islamabad’s continued support for terrorism and warned that such actions would invite inevitable repercussions. His intervention came during a debate on upholding the UN Charter’s core objectives. Harish directly addressed Pakistan’s envoy, who had raised the Kashmir issue and accused India of non-compliance with UN resolutions. The Indian diplomat countered by recalling that Pakistan itself had failed to meet the conditions set out in Resolution 47 of 1948, which demanded the withdrawal of its troops and tribal invaders from the region. Emphasizing India’s sovereign rights, Harish stated that Jammu and Kashmir is legally and permanently part of the country. He accused Pakistan of pursuing a strategy of “a thousand cuts” aimed at weakening India through proxy warfare and cross-border terrorism. Such conduct, he noted, exposes the gap between Pakistan’s rhetoric and its actual behavior. India’s statement highlighted the country’s commitment to peaceful coexistence while making it clear that self-defense remains a legitimate option. The message was unambiguous: Pakistan must cease its support for terrorism if it wishes to be taken seriously as a responsible member of the international community.
