Uruguay-India diplomatic ties enter new chapter with new envoy

India, the world’s most populous nation and a major global economy, now has a dedicated diplomatic mission in Montevideo. The resident embassy, operational since August 2026, replaces the former coordination from the Indian mission in Buenos Aires. Both countries first established diplomatic relations in 1948, with formal recognition in 1960, and this latest development is expected to deepen economic and knowledge partnerships.
