A significant military enhancement is underway for India, as the United States has approved two major arms deals valued at approximately $93 million. These acquisitions are set to dramatically bolster the Indian Army’s capabilities, particularly in anti-armor and precision artillery warfare. The Javelin anti-tank missile system, renowned for its ‘fire-and-forget’ technology and effectiveness demonstrated in recent conflicts, will significantly upgrade India’s ability to counter armored threats. This system allows soldiers to fire and immediately seek cover, with the missile autonomously guiding itself to the target.
The second major component of this deal involves the M982A1 Excalibur precision-guided artillery projectiles. These GPS-guided munitions offer unparalleled accuracy, enabling Indian artillery units to engage targets from extended ranges with pinpoint precision. This capability transforms conventional artillery into a surgical strike instrument. The US Defense Security Cooperation Agency highlighted that these sales will not only strengthen India’s response to current and evolving threats but also deepen the strategic alliance between the two nations. These systems, already in limited use by the Indian Army, will replenish stocks and enhance operational readiness, signaling a major shift in regional military dynamics.
