US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick expressed his belief that India will eventually apologize and pursue a trade agreement with the United States. Lutnick suggested India will recognize its dependence on the US market. In a television interview, Lutnick drew a parallel between India’s situation and Canada’s shift in position to secure a deal with the United States, driven by economic considerations. Lutnick predicted India would be at the negotiating table within a short timeframe, expressing remorse and seeking a deal with Donald Trump. He added that the ultimate decision would rest with Trump regarding the terms of the agreement with Indian Prime Minister Modi. This comes after former US President Donald Trump’s comments on Truth Social, where he stated the US has seemingly ‘lost’ India and Russia to China, following their joint presence at the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation meeting in Tianjin. Trump’s post included an old picture of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Russian President Vladimir Putin, and Chinese President Xi Jinping. Trump also accused Chinese President Xi Jinping of allegedly ‘conspiring against’ America following the attendance of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un and Russian President Vladimir Putin at China’s largest-ever military parade.
