During the G20 finance ministers’ session in Asheville, the Trump administration outlined a new set of trade tools designed to level the playing field for American businesses. Deputy Under Secretary Erin Brown announced the adoption of reciprocal and sector‑specific tariffs aimed at countries that maintain what the United States describes as unfair trade practices. The approach is paired with incentives such as tax breaks for investment, expanded domestic energy production, and tighter fiscal discipline to strengthen U.S. savings and manufacturing capacity.

Brown reminded fellow ministers that “America First” does not mean America alone; it signifies building robust partnerships founded on a strong U.S. economy. The message resonated with several allies who also pledged to simplify regulations to unlock growth. Federal Reserve Chairman Kevin Warsh reiterated that the era of prolonged economic stagnation is over, underscoring the administration’s confidence in the policy direction.

Private‑sector leaders were invited to the talks, offering direct input on obstacles to innovation, including the adoption of AI in manufacturing and health care, as well as the development of digital assets.
