US Strikes Near Hormuz Prompt Sharp Iranian Warning

Fresh American military action in southern Iran has triggered an immediate and stern response from Tehran. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps vowed to deliver a “strong and forceful reply” if attacks persist. The warning follows US airstrikes on missile launch facilities and Iranian boats allegedly preparing to deploy sea mines in the approaches to the Strait of Hormuz. IRGC officials reported that 25 ships, ranging from oil tankers to container vessels, successfully transited the vital waterway under their watch within the last 24 hours. They noted that each vessel had requested and received safe passage authorization. The Guard highlighted its continued “smart and strict control” over the strait and cautioned against any further hostile moves. US Central Command justified the strikes as necessary self-defense actions to neutralize threats to American personnel. Spokesperson Tim Hawkins stated that missile sites and mine-laying craft were specifically targeted. The command stressed that it remains committed to safeguarding its forces throughout the current ceasefire period, which began on April 8. The escalation has cast fresh doubt on fragile peace talks between Washington and Tehran. Analysts warn that sustained fighting near the Strait could further strain global energy markets already rattled by months of regional instability. Since February, Iran has intensified restrictions on vessels linked to the US and Israel, while American naval forces maintain a blockade affecting Iranian port access.
