The United States has successfully neutralized a suspected drug-carrying submarine in the Caribbean Sea, the White House announced Sunday. The vessel was reportedly en route to U.S. shores along a known drug trafficking corridor. This latest operation, which resulted in the deaths of two individuals, marks the sixth such strike by U.S. forces in the region in recent weeks. The Trump administration reported that 27 individuals were killed in the previous five interdictions. Former President Donald Trump lauded the mission on his social media platform, Truth Social, asserting that failing to stop the submarine could have led to the deaths of 25,000 Americans. He stated it was his “great honor” to authorize the destruction of the “very large” submarine, emphasizing that no U.S. personnel were harmed. Trump vowed that under his leadership, “narcoterrorists” would not be tolerated. Two survivors from the submarine are slated for repatriation to Ecuador and Colombia for legal proceedings. Colombian President Gustavo Petro confirmed that a Colombian national apprehended will face justice in his home country.
