The United States has been making various claims regarding the tariffs imposed on India. White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt stated that former US President Donald Trump implemented the tariff on India to resolve the Russia-Ukraine conflict. She indicated that Trump desires an end to the ongoing conflict between the two nations.
Initially, the US imposed a 25% tariff on India. Subsequently, an additional 25% tariff was added, doubling the total. Presently, India faces a 50% tariff from the United States.
Press Secretary Leavitt explained that the former President applied significant pressure to end the Russia-Ukraine war, including the additional tariff on India and other measures. Leavitt emphasized that Trump consistently sought a resolution to the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
Leavitt mentioned that Trump aimed for a swift resolution to the conflict. Trump met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy at the White House and urged him to negotiate with Putin to end the conflict. Leavitt added that the meeting included NATO Secretary-General and all European leaders, who agreed that Trump was making commendable efforts. Following the meeting, the former President hoped that both leaders could meet to discuss ending the war.
Leavitt stated that Trump’s efforts to establish peace between the two countries resulted in European leaders being present at the White House within 48 hours of his meeting with Putin. She noted that the former President shared his ideas on a peace agreement between the two nations with all European leaders at the White House, and they all appreciated Trump’s efforts.
In her statement, Leavitt reiterated the claim that the war between Russia and Ukraine would never have started if Donald Trump had been the US President. She stated that leaders of both nations are grateful to Trump for his efforts to mediate a peace agreement, as the previous administration had not undertaken such initiatives, a fact acknowledged by Russian President Vladimir Putin himself.
