Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi is expected to travel to India later this month to participate in Special Representative (SR)-level discussions. India will be represented by National Security Advisor Ajit Doval in these talks. Recent months have witnessed a drive to improve relations between India and China, with notable developments. High-level dialogues between the two nations have resumed, including meetings involving Foreign Minister Wang Yi and India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping are also slated to meet at the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit in Tianjin, China, later in August. China has officially extended an invitation to Prime Minister Modi for the SCO Summit. A Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson expressed optimism that the summit would foster regional cooperation. The SCO summit in Tianjin will be held from August 31 to September 1, with leaders from over 20 countries, including all SCO member states, and heads of 10 international organizations in attendance. India and China have also agreed to disengage and restart patrolling in the Depsang Plains and Demchok areas along the Line of Actual Control (LAC). The Kailash Mansarovar Yatra has resumed, reflecting a revival of people-to-people connections and cultural diplomacy. Tourist visas have been reinstated after a five-year hiatus, and business relations are recovering, with Indian diesel cargo shipments to China. Both countries are cooperating in multilateral forums like BRICS, SCO, and G20, demonstrating efforts to collaborate on global platforms despite ongoing bilateral tensions. Prime Minister Modi last visited China in 2018.
