Washington eyes duties on vehicles from Canada amid trade dispute

President Donald Trump told the press that Washington is prepared to impose a tariff on cars produced in Canada, arguing the neighboring country has failed to treat the United States equitably in trade matters. Speaking from the Oval Office, Trump said, “We are going to put a tariff on their cars.” He offered no information on the tariff level or when it might take effect. The warning followed his signing of an executive order that renamed Canada’s Lake Ontario to “Lake America,” a symbolic gesture meant to highlight what he described as Canadian trade advantages.
