Ahead of the elections in Bangladesh, the Yunus government is facing a significant challenge. The seizure of weapons from security forces by protesters during clashes related to the July revolution last year has become a major concern for the interim government. There is a heightened risk of these weapons being misused before the elections. Consequently, government agencies are actively conducting campaigns to recover these weapons.
Recent data indicates that 1,363 weapons and 257,720 cartridges are still missing. Law enforcement agencies suspect that these weapons could be used to incite violence and destabilize the country before the upcoming national elections. Efforts to seize weapons have been intensified as a result.
Home Advisor, Retired Lieutenant General Mohammad Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, stated on Saturday that the recovery of weapons is an ongoing process, with seizures happening daily. He added, “We are hopeful that almost all weapons will be recovered before the elections.”
