Diwali is on 24th of this month. On the occasion of Deepawali, worship and sacred rites begin five days in advance. In such a situation, the availability of indigenous cow dung to ensure the sanctity of the place is a major problem in the cities for performing the rituals or making Gauri Ganesh. In Hinduism, the use of cow dung in Teej festivals has its own importance. Getting tens of cow dung in cities growing like a concrete desert is a very difficult task for the people. Sometimes on such occasions cow dung has to be brought from the villages outside the city by asking for it from the villagers. This Diwali, the residents of Raipur will not have to face these problems. The cow dung of the indigenous cows of Gokul Nagar Gauthan of Raipur Municipal Corporation area will now be available to the people in C-Mart at affordable prices. A member of a women’s self-help group working in Gothan, Gokul Nagar Zone 6, is doing attractive packing of country cow dung. Here, color is being mixed in the dung of the indigenous cow to give it red, yellow, green and violet colours. This indigenous cow dung will be available in 1 kg packets to the people at C-Mart. Its cost will be Rs 10 per packet. Neelam Aggarwal, president of the self-help group, says that last year many people used to come asking for cow dung, which was given free of cost. Therefore, this year it has been decided to make it a new source of income for women, prepare it and sell it in Gauthan itself. There are more than 400 indigenous cows in Gauthan, from which about 3 thousand kg of dung is available every day, using this dung, many types of products are made here. In which 31 types of different materials are made from the dung of the indigenous cow, wood, kanda, incense, havan material, manure, suitcase, slippers, gulal, sculptures, paintings, pots, tiles, etc. The women’s group has set a target of preparing three tonnes of dung before Diwali. Which will be sold through C-Mart. Under the ambitious scheme ‘Narwa, Garuwa, Ghuruwa and Bari’ of Chhattisgarh government, Gauthan has been constructed in 2.5 acres in Gokul Nagar, Zone 6 of the district. Here cow dung is not sold, but the work of making many types of material from it is done by women self-help groups. Gothan earns Rs 30 lakh annually from the sale of these products. Due to which the women of the group are becoming financially empowered and are not dependent on anyone. The products are made here, 13 women work in this Gothan, a special self-help group, which makes various products from cow dung along with the care of cows. Gothan has many such products which are made for the first time in the world which include materials like cow dung slippers, suitcases, watches, paintings. Due to these products, not only did the women here get special recognition but they have also been honored at various forums due to their skills. Women have become financially empowered due to Gauthans and at the same time they are also becoming an inspiration for women across the state. Continuous efforts are also being made by the state government to increase the income from Gauthans. Due to which the efforts of these women as well as women across the state are being strengthened. Due to this force, women are not only improving their skills and making a source of income for themselves but are also becoming an example for women across the country.
