The Chief Minister Shri Bhupesh Baghel has given the slogan “Khelbo Jeetbo Garhbo Nava Chhattisgarh” to inculcate enthusiasm among the youth towards sports in Chhattisgarh. On his initiative, Chhattisgarh Sports Development Authority has been formed for development of sports and coordination among various sports academies units. With the development of new sports facilities of international level, the interest in sports has increased among the youth. The state government is promoting the traditional games of Chhattisgarh including Bhaura, Gedi race and Fugdi. During the youth festival, traditional games are also organized in the districts including the capital of the state. Under the leadership of Chief Minister Mr. Bhupesh Baghel and Minister of Sports and Youth Welfare Mr. Umesh Patel, in the last three years in Chhattisgarh, for the enhancement of sports infrastructure and various sports facilities. Many works have been done for Late B.R. Residential training facilities have been made available for athletics, archery and hockey in the sports academy named after Yadav. Late Koduram Verma Dhanurvidha Residential Academy has been established in the premises of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Hockey Stadium in Raipur. In both the residential academies, arrangements will be made for free food, sports training, scholarship and insurance as well as education to the players. Along with the players, other employees are being recruited for these activities. Similarly, non-residential girls’ football academy and non-residential boys-girls athletic academy have been set up at Swami Vivekananda Stadium in Raipur. International level tennis stadium and academy are being constructed at Labhandi Raipur to develop better facilities for playing tennis in the state. For this an amount of more than 17 crore 75 lakh has been approved. International level hockey stadiums are ready at Raipur, Bilaspur, Rajnandgaon and Jashpur in the state. In order to encourage sportspersons, a provision of one crore rupees has been made under the Chief Minister’s Protsahan Yojana. For the development of sports in the state, financial assistance of one crore 30 lakh has been provided to departmentally recognized sports federations and institutions in the financial year 2020-21. Similarly, in the year 2021-22 till the month of November, financial assistance of about Rs 60 lakh has been given. Approval has also been given for construction of Judo Academy building in Durg district. Synthetic athletics track construction at Mahasamund at a cost of 6 crore 60 lakh, approval for construction of multipurpose indoor hall at Ambikapur at a cost of 4 crore 50 lakh and synthetic turf football to be constructed at a cost of 5 crore at Indira Priyadarshini Stadium in Bastar. The approval for the construction of the running track of Maidan Gath has been received from the Government of India.
