Artificial intelligence (AI) is currently a significant topic of discussion, with both its advantages and disadvantages being widely debated. Sridhar Vembu, the co-founder and Chief Scientist of Zoho Corporation, shared his insights on the use of AI in a post on X (formerly Twitter). He highlighted how AI should be utilized and where caution is necessary.
According to Vembu, AI can significantly enhance learning, simplify tasks, and improve experiences. He personally uses AI 2-3 times daily and has experienced two major benefits from it.
* **Faster Learning:** Vembu states that he now needs to perform 80% fewer Google searches.
* **Debate Partner:** He uses one AI to generate answers and another to critique them, helping him understand topics more deeply.
Vembu cautions against relying solely on AI, particularly in two areas:
* **Customer Support:** While AI can assist, it shouldn’t completely replace humans. The biggest mistake is copying and pasting AI-generated text to customers without disclosing its origin.
* **Coding:** Vembu emphasizes the need to thoroughly review AI-generated code, considering compliance, privacy, and security. Programmers who submit unchecked AI code are not fulfilling their responsibilities.
Vembu concludes that reviewing every AI output, even if it takes time, is crucial. Otherwise, it can lead to a decrease in productivity and, at times, even slow down humans. He notes that they are constantly experimenting and ready to revise their opinions as new information emerges.
