Under the chairmanship of Agriculture and Water Resources Minister Shri Ravindra Choubey, in the meeting of Chhattisgarh Tea-Coffee Board held at Mahanadi Mantralaya Bhawan, Nava Raipur today, expanding the area of tea and coffee cultivation in Bastar and Surguja divisions and marketing of coffee produced in Bastar. It was decided to sign MoU with private companies for An initiative has been taken to start Bastar Cafes in Raipur and New Delhi for sale and co-marketing of coffee produced in Bastar. It is to be mentioned here that the sale-cum-marketing for coffee produced in Bastar is currently being operated in Jagdalpur Bastar Cafe. Minister Shri Ravindra Choubey has encouraged the cultivation of tea and coffee in the plateau areas of Surguja division of the state including Bastar. Instructions were given to prepare the project after conducting a survey for the same. He said that for marketing of coffee produced in Bastar, MoU should be signed with private companies with the condition that the name of Bastar will be compulsorily included in the brand name of the coffee. He said that the necessary amount should be ensured from the DMM fund for setting up the machine for its processing. He directed the officers to identify areas for coffee cultivation in Sukma district also. It was informed in the meeting that coffee plantation planted in 20 acres in Darbha has started production. In the first phase, 8 quintals of coffee has been produced, which is being used through Bastar Cafe operating in Jagdalpur, where two kg of coffee is being consumed per day. At least three more cafes can be started for utilization and marketing of the quantity produced. For the branding of Bastar coffee, it was talked about starting one cafe each in Raipur and Delhi. It was told in the meeting that in the year 2021, coffee has been cultivated on 55 acres in Darbha of Bastar. Coffee cultivation is proposed in Bastar district in total 5108 acres, which includes 1075 acres in 9 villages of Tokapal block, 1027 acres in 11 villages of Lohandiguda, 1445 acres in 14 villages of Bastanar, 460 acres in 7 villages of Bakwand and Darbha. Coffee cultivation is proposed on 1101 acres in 13 villages of the block. It was also informed in the meeting that preparations for coffee plantation in 245 acres have been completed by Jagdalpur, Agriculture College in Darbha. Action is being taken by the Horticulture Department to get 2.50 quintal certified seed of Chandragiri variety from Coffee Board Bangalore, from this 5 lakh saplings will be prepared, which will be planted in 500 acres of land. Similarly, two lakh saplings will be prepared by the Agricultural College Jagdalpur by obtaining one quintal of certified seed from the Coffee Board, Bangalore. Which can be planted in 200 acres. It was told in the meeting that the target of expanding coffee cultivation in Bastar district to 1000 acres every year. It will be cultivated in 5820 acres by the year 2026. With the convergence of various schemes of the government, work is being done to promote coffee cultivation. In the meeting, the action plan for promotion of tea cultivation in Jashpur district and the resources required for tea-coffee production were also discussed.
